DIMONDALE FOSTER FAMILY AGENCY
Dimondale Foster Family Agency (DFFA) is dedicated to preparing resource families to care for children who have been identified as victims of child abuse and neglect. We are committed to the safety, permanency, and well-being of the children and non-minor dependents we serve.
Resource Family Approval Program (RFA)
Los Angeles County implemented the Resource Family Approval (RFA) Program, which took effect January 1, 2017, as part of the statewide Continuum of Care Reform. The RFA process improves the way caregivers (related and non-related) of children in foster care are approved and prepared to parent vulnerable children, whether temporarily or permanently.
What is a Resource Family?
Resource Family is the new term California applied to caregivers who provide out-of-home care for children in foster care. Resource families include individuals, couples, and families who want to provide care to a related or unrelated child (or children) who is under the jurisdiction of the juvenile court, or otherwise in the care of a county child welfare agency or probation department.
What is the difference between a Resource Family and Foster Parent
None, the term “Resource Family” is used in replacement of foster parent. There is no significant difference in the day-to-day care and responsibilities of a foster parent versus a resource family.
Resource families are still individuals, couples, or families that seek to provide day-to-day care for children that are under the jurisdiction of the juvenile court, or otherwise in the care of a county child welfare agency or probation department.
Why Become a Resource Family?
In the state of California, there are approximately 55,983 children in foster care. The number of resource families and homes are far less. The greatest need for children and non-minor dependents in foster care are families that can provide a safe and nurturing environment. Opening your home and heart to children that are vulnerable to abuse and neglect can be a rewarding experience. If patience and compassion come naturally for you, rather than asking yourself, “Why should I become a resource family?” ask yourself instead, “Why shouldn’t I become a resource family?”. C. Dimondale Foster Family Agency will provide the tools and support needed to become an effective resource family while meeting the needs of the child. With the partnership of the Agency, experienced caseworkers, and resource families, we hope to produce amazing results for years to come.
